Michael Berens

Using a material and technique that captures impressions of human bodies, Michael Berens’ work is a frozen moment of intimacy between the artist and the collaborator.  The artist seeks to create multi-layered community collaborations, and comments on issues of mapping, mark-making and memory.

Berens is a recent recipient of an Emerging Artist Fellowship from Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, NY, where he created a large installation called the Hammocanopy Project.  He is an adjunct instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology and at the Pi Art Center in New York City, where he lives.
