Canine imagery and its meaning is the subject of Jeff Downing’s
large body of freestanding, hand-crafted ceramic work. He
writes, “Creating dog imagery is part of a long and
enduring tradition throughout the world that has characterized
the animals for their many symbolic and formal qualities.
For as long as we have co-existed with dogs, they have provided
us with a close and mysterious link to nature.” Downing
is a professor at San Francisco State University in California.
