Gary Wahl received his MFA in sculpture
from the University of Iowa and is currently an adjunct professor
at Ablion College in Michigan. He writes, “This piece
alludes to both physical and emotional displacement, a lack
of a sense of place. Our society is increasingly nomadic and
the ideal of the family homestead passed down through generations
is less attainable.” He uses materials (concrete, steel)
that are intended to outlast their maker, evoking a sense
of ruin, loss of meaning and function. |
