Anja Marais, who holds a degree in Sculpture from the University
of South Africa, has shown in many one-person and group
shows in Florida and New York. Her work explores nostalgia,
paradox and enigma through her chosen subject matter: the
female body and how women survived and lived through generations
of hardship. She writes, “The subject becomes the
outlines of my mother washing dishes, the shadow of my grandmother
watering flowers. Lost illusions lurk in the shadows of
my childhood memories…”
