Key West sculptor Bill Loraine uses a very special indigenous
stone as his medium. He collects the cornerstones of Victorian
era Conch houses in Key West. He writes, “They are
the symbols of the determination of the early Conch families
to survive the extremes of weather found in Key West—hurricanes,
tropical thunderstorms and summer monsoon. They speak of
history, of life in earlier times both in their prehistoric
creation as part of the land itself, and also in their most
recent use.”
